Boston & District Saturday Football League - Formed 1898

  • Loggerheads Inn, South End - until the late 1940’s - now demolished and currently being used as a car park

Teams in the League

1898 - 1899 12 teams formed one Division - Names of known teams: G N Beaulahs, St James, Boston Swifts, Boston Albion, Skirbeck and Boston Butchers
1906 - 1907 12 teams formed one Division
1932 - 1939 37 teams
1939 - 1947 12 teams only, due to World War II. As the War ended the League started to reform slowly, building up to 43 teams formed into three Divisions, then 48 teams formed into four Divisions, then 56 teams, beating the previous high of 48, forming five Divisions with 18 Reserve sides, then 56 teams formed into five Divisions with 22 Reserve sides, then 56 teams formed into five Divisions with 21 Reserve sides, then 52 teams formed into four Divisions with 18 Reserve sides, until:
1995 54 teams formed four Divisions with 17 Reserve sides
1997 56 teams formed four Divisions with 18 Reserve sides
1998 - 1999 Centenary Year – A group photograph of Sponsors, League Officers and Club Secretaries was taken. There was also a presentation by Mr R Tinkler, LFA Representative, at the Football Association in Soho Square to the League of a commemorative whiskey decanter, which is to be passed on to each reigning Chairman

2005 The League Badge was introduced
